Why Launch Network Tests from the Keyboard
For engineers who troubleshoot network issues dozens of times a day, the process of opening a browser, typing a URL, and waiting for the page to load is too cumbersome. Raycast, a productivity launcher for macOS, lets you summon the command palette with a hotkey from any screen, and the SpeedTest extension brings global test nodes right into that palette.
After installing the extension, type ping followed by the target domain, press Enter, and you'll see real-time latency from nodes across five major global regions. The whole process takes under three seconds, and your hands never leave the keyboard.
Installation and Configuration
Search for SpeedTest in the Raycast Store and install it with one click. On first use, you'll need to enter an API key in the extension settings. You can generate a key for free from the developer page in the SpeedTest dashboard, and personal users get 10,000 free calls per month.
The extension supports custom default node groups. If your business primarily targets users in China, you can set the default group to Shanghai Telecom, Shanghai Unicom, and Shanghai Mobile; for overseas, we recommend Hong Kong and Singapore nodes.
Supported Test Types
The extension currently supports online Ping, Tcping port checks, HTTP(S) response tests, and traceroute—fully aligned with the web version. Results are displayed in a list, with each row showing the node name, latency, response IP, and geographic location. You can copy the results as a table with one click and paste them into tickets or group chats.
For targets you need to monitor continuously, you can save the test command as a Raycast Quicklink and use a hotkey for one-click re-testing.
